ARTIST STATEMENT... | ||||
As an artist, I am inspired by the way things look in the world around me and on my canvas. I want to make artwork that engages the viewer's eyes and mind. Drawing is an essential element of my approach. My technique merges historical and contemporary painting practice. Life experiences, connection to subject, and the act of looking inform my creative choices. If a painting or drawing is visually interesting it will lead to further examination. My process layers transparent and opaque paint to create surfaces that resonate light and seem to glow from within. The compositions I choose invite metaphorical and psychological interpretations for ordinary things. The subjects depicted lend themselves to becoming symbolic containers and spaces occupied by the viewers own thoughts and feelings. |
